Suzhou Olympic Sports Center is located in the core area of Lake East in Suzhou Industrial Park. It starts from Xingtang Street in the west, ends at the planned road in the east, connects to the east of Zhongxin Avenue in the north and faces Xietang River in the south. With a total construction area of approximately 360,000 square meters, it is a multi-functional ecological Grade A sports center integrating sports competition, leisure and fitness, commercial entertainment and cultural performances. It includes sports buildings such as the First stadium (stadium) and the Second gymnasium (gymnasium and swimming pool), as well as supporting commercial and leisure facilities such as the Su Sports Square and the outdoor sports park.

The project was designed by the world-renowned architectural design company GMP Architekten. The construction drawing design was completed by Shanghai Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., LTD. The construction was undertaken by China Construction Third Engineering Division Co., LTD. Jiangnan Management undertook the engineering consulting services (including engineering supervision, design optimization consulting, cost management, etc.).

The stadium has no basement. The above-ground part is a five-story concrete structure with a steel roof. The steel roof, except for the hinged columns set on the third floor of the concrete structure and the connecting rods set on the side of the upper grandstand, forms a self-balancing system. The concrete grandstand is 33.8 meters high and the steel structure roof is 52.0 meters high. The lateral force-resistant structural system of the stadium is used to resist seismic forces and wind loads. The main lateral force-resisting system is mainly a concrete frame structure. For floors above three, it is a single-span concrete frame +BRB support structure. The stadium of Suzhou Olympic Sports Center has a span of 260 meters, setting a national record for the largest span of a single-layer cable-membrane structure and a world record for the largest span of an irregular single-layer cable-membrane structure system. It is more than twice the original domestic record.

To present an outstanding architectural effect, the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium adopts a fair-faced concrete structure, which features uniform color, smooth surface and sharp edges. It exudes a simple and unadorned, natural and steady charm, and has a very smooth touch. As a public building, it shows a people-friendly side.
